The Need for Opposites

Forgiveness is the quintessential piece to living an unburdened, joyous life. Harboring resentment, bitterness, and anger does nothing but corrupt your spirit. In those moments it is you fighting against yourself. Pain, sadness, and disappointment is part of the human experience. We cannot experience love, joy, happiness without knowing what darkness, grief, and regret tastes like.

Our world cannot be one of pure goodness, of peace, of health because we would not appreciate the pleasure and satisfaction and contentment when goodness does enter into our lives.

Without darkness, we cannot know light.

Without sorrow, we cannot know elation.

Without pain, we cannot know healing.

The opposites of life draw us closer to one another. It is through the tough times, the lonely times, the times when all you can see is darkness that we become more human. It is through those times when our growth is exponential. It is through those times that our character is built. It is through those times that we become more relatable to others; we become a source of strength, of inspiration to those a couple steps behind you. We are the middle child of god— always looking up at legacies left before us, and creating legacies we leave behind.

Do not be ashamed or afraid of the darkness you’ve experienced, for it is this darkness that has pushed you to the light. For it is this darkness that carved a deeper appreciation within you for the light.
